Podcasts and traveling

Hello Everyone, I listened to a lot of podcasts when I was on the road. Hours and hours every day, whether I was driving or doing stuff in the camper. I still listen to a lot of shows, and being until recently unemployed, I have had a lot of time to plow through material. Some of my favourite shows will occasionally air reruns, but rather than be bored by it, I have the wonderful experience of remembering exactly where I was when I first heard it. It happened to me recently when the NYT’s Modern Love series aired a rerun, and I vividly remember driving down a backcountry road in Idaho, heading for some hot springs. I passed a couple of horse farms along the way and met a really cool couple and their kids in the springs. They were active and traveled a lot, a real model of what I’d like to do. I had kinda forgot about that, but it instantly came back to me when I heard the podcast.  There's been other's as well. Remembering a long drive through Texas while listening to This American Life. Listening to stories from the Moth while wandering around a semi-evaporated water reserve on the border of Wyoming. It's somewhat odd that these shows so strongly trigger vivid memories. I pay attention when I have them on, but I am almost always doing something else: driving, cooking, walking the dog, etc. And yet, the recall is strong and immediate. Memory is a funny thing.

Now that I'm back and doing regular things with my life, I worry that I'll forget about the cool stuff from the trip. It's a pleasant surprise when things like this trigger memories.

With my return to work, I have signed Arthur up for regular dog walks again. He was pretty happy to see Sophie, but probably not so happy to sit next to that galoot of a dog in the last photo.

Also, note Soph's bearing in contrast to the lab next to her. Caniche Royal to the bone.
