On the occasion of my birth

Hello Everyone,

I turned over a new year recently, and while 41 isn't usually a milestone year, unless you celebrate prime number birthdays, it's a pretty special one for me.

When I turned 31, I hosted one of the best parties I've ever attended. I can't claim any particular ability at hosting events, it's just that a bunch of things came together to make it an epic rager. There was a DJ, a hot tub, a lot of people, and I was young enough to stay up past 11 pm with more than a beer and a half in my system.

On the morning of my 41st birthday, I was woken up at midnight, 4 am and 8 am, got screamed at and peed on. A bit of a different vibe, you might say.

It's a funny contrast, but I like to think it's also progress. If I had hosted a big event for my birthday this year, pandemic aside, it would have felt disappointing. It would mean I was doing the exact same things, 10 years later. Parties are great, and hopefully I'll host more when such things are allowed, but not having any new adventures to show in a decade of living would be an indictment.

Yeah, getting peed on isn't awesome, but you know what is? Raising your first child. That is awesome, in the truest sense of the word.

So, I didn't drink any beer, and I went to bed at 7:30, but I most certainly had a fantastic birthday.

I'm trying to avoid posting pictures of the kid online, so these will be child adjacent.

A very cute pink onesie that is, shockingly, already too small for my monster.

Living in the country, but still taking selfies.
